A natural extension of Transpersonal Psychology that incorporates the methods of four waves of Psychology, is termed as “Transpersonal Hypnotherapy”.
Transpersonal Hypnotherapy supports the person in resolving unwanted habits, negative reactions, destructive behaviours, and limiting beliefs.
Benefits of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy
This integrative and holistic form of hypnotherapy is beneficial in:
- Person Development and Healing
- Performance Enhancement in any context
- Resolving Relationship issues
Method of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy
Transpersonal hypnotherapy includes the objectives and methods of traditional Ericksonian hypnotherapy.
It is quite similar to Ericksonian hypnotherapy, but it takes a more integrative and holistic approach to nurture the client’s transformation and growth.
It is achieved through individually tailored processes which help the clients to find what can provide them a sense of purpose and meaning.
Along with supporting them to find the ways to express this through their work, in personal life and in relationships.
Transpersonal hypnotherapy practitioners use the holistic approach in which they consider the body, mind, soul, and spirit of their clients.
In traditional hypnotherapy practice, practitioners aim to reprogram the unconscious mind.
While in transpersonal hypnotherapy, they aim to increase awareness through de-programming the unconscious mind to go beyond personality.
Once personality transcends, better access to intuition and mind is achieved, and the inner resources of the unconscious mind are tapped.
Practitioners identify whom to work with, and what to take in consideration, i.e., the non-ordinary state of consciousness and the transpersonal phenomenon which occur in therapy.
Most people often misunderstand the practitioners that they do not know the transpersonal approach and haven’t learned about the transpersonal approach.
Waves of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy
Transpersonal Hypnotherapy incorporates the method of all four waves of psychology. These four waves include:
- Psychoanalytic theory
- Behavioural Psychology
- Humanistic Psychology
- Transpersonal Psychology
#1 Psychoanalytic Theory
The first wave, psychoanalytic theory, developed by Freud and Jung.
It deals with the underlying issues and unconscious mind.
Regarding hypnosis, it is termed as hypnoanalysis, that examines the root cause of client’s problems.
#2 Behavioural Psychology
The second wave behavioural psychology is a traditional hypnosis.
It uses the environmental modifications to alter the habits of a person.
Through traditional hypnosis, it gives a direct suggestion to be different that reinforces the new behaviour and later expects for a change.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) that works in changing the neurology of the body, has its root in the second wave of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, i.e., behavioural psychology.
#3 Humanistic Psychology
The third wave of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, Humanistic Psychology, was developed by Abraham Maslow.
It acknowledges that our strive is for self-actualization; meaning the healthy integration of mind, body, and emotions.
#4 Transpersonal Psychology
The fourth wave, transpersonal psychology, was also developed by Abraham Maslow.
It states our strive towards the realization of our spiritual potential and self-transcendence.
In this wave of Transpersonal Hypnotherapy, practitioners try to tap the resources of the unconscious mind and connect with the source of all that.
With transpersonal psychology, transpersonal hypnotherapy recognizes the drive toward wholeness, towards an intuitive experience of spirit.
This perspective empowers the practitioners to be a competent hypnotherapist.
Work in Transpersonal Hypnotherapy
In transpersonal hypnotherapy, practitioners works with dealing of issues such as weight from given all four of these approaches:
Underlying issues: Through this, they review, understand, and relieve the childhood wounds around the weight
A habit to change: Open the refrigerator less or any similar kind of habit
Personal Mastery: To achieve mental, physical, and mental potential of client around weight issues.
Spiritual potential: Through this, practitioners try to expand wisdom and perspectives.
Transpersonal hypnotherapy mostly deal with fourth wave, i.e., spiritual potential, with the goal being to help the clients wake up and make them realize who they actually are.
Transpersonal Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy that brings long-lasting results.
As most insurance companies now don’t pay for long-term psychotherapy, clients look for results of their problem in just a few sessions.
Through transpersonal hypnotherapy, they recognize a drive towards wholeness.
If you are a practitioner, you can serve your clients by providing them results in a few sessions, that will be beneficial for both.
