5.1 Induce Hypnosis
Three types of activities are done to induce hypnosis:
- Activity to overload conscious mind
- Verbal suggestion and
- Physical Action
Use Action Based Exercise: Choose any of the action based exercises of induction given in the forthcoming chapters. Perform the exercise as per suggestions and instructions given with each of the exercises. These exercises are done in order to create a state of emergency and trigger finch flight reactions making the conscious mind withdraw from action and helping the subconscious mind to take up charge of the situation. The action based exercises serve purpose for client and counsellor both. The client understands the effect taking place while the counsellor or therapist understands about the state of suggestibility of the
Count Down: Count down from 5 to 0 speaking each number clearly using voice modulation. Speak 5 with loudest volume and Zero with lowest volume. Some people use counting from 10 to 0 or 7 to 0 or even 3 to 0. The counting of 5 to 0 is reasonably long but not too long. Hence, it is preferred more than others.
Snap Finger: Snapping finger has its unique importance of being a sound that cannot be written in words. It adds sudden load on the conscious mind. It should not be given impression of magic like activity or
Say Deep Sleep: Use loud pitch while saying ‘deep sleep’ but volume should not be too high to disturb the subject. The message of deep sleep is for the conscious mind as intellect is not required during the hypnotic
Touch Forehead: The central part of forehead usually known as third eye should be touched with one of the fingers simultaneously while saying deep sleep. It gives support to the mind of the client. The touch should be felt by the client. Avoid pushing the client while touching.
