English is the official language of the world. When we talk to someone who is foreign to us then we use English language as a common medium. The popularity and demand of English language is also increasing day by day. Hence people are learning English to stay ahead in time. However despite having good knowledge of this language people find it hard to communicate. They develop a fear of speaking English in public. First we need to understand the reasons behind this fear and then can remove fear of English speaking.

Reasons of Fear

  1. Communicate to Impress: We tend to communicate or do anything just to impress. We have learned this new language and in order to leave a lasting impression we speak. But when we develop this thought of impressing others, we also develop a fear of being unsuccessful. So confidence and fear go hand in hand. We assume that if we are unable to impress then we might become a subject of laughter. That fear hinders us constantly and we become less confident in speaking English language properly.
  2. Comparison: We compare our command in speaking English with those who have English as their mother tongue. It is not right thing to do in the first step. And second most of us have different languages as our mother tongue. We can have best command only in our mother tongue. Or when we have all the facilities and training to master any other language. But usually we can have good knowledge but not that fluency which English speakers have.

The above two reasons are most common found in people who have fear of English speaking. They shatter the confidence and hesitation rises in the individual. But there are ways to remove that fear too.

Practice also allows us to find our mistakes.
  2. Speak to Express: The meaning of communication is important to be delivered in any communication process. We speak to impress, not to express. This is where we go wrong. Delivering the message is important. Once the message is understood by the receiver then the process is a success.
